Weekend Warrior vol.2 - Jordan Alpha 1

Most sneakerheads know that the orginal Jordan I from 1985 is the shoe that started it all and is still one of the most sought after Jordan models to this day. Shoe technology and performance has come a lonnnnnnnng way since that first signature Jordan shoe in '85 so when I read about the concept behind the Alpha 1, I was really excited. The shoe was meant to be a retro of the original Air Jordan but with updates that make it more suitable for the on-court demands of today's game.

As you can see, the shoe does a pretty good job of paying tribute to the original shoe (pic courtesy of hypebeast.com)--so much so that every time I wear these someone almost always asks me how I can wear them for basketball thinking that they are indeed the original.

Here's another colorway and the one I've worn more recently:

This updated for modern basketball model features:
-a full-lengeth zoom-air bag (that's the thin, spongier, springier nike air bag) for cushioning
-perforation for breath-ability (aka airholes so your foot doesn't get as sweaty)
-a comfort lining similar to Nike Sphere that's also meant to keep your feet cool and dry
-a hybrid, outsole featuring the original bottom but enhanced with the "herringbone" pattern for better traction.

What it's GOOD at
The Alpha 1 is a great, lightweight, update of the Jordan I classic that many have come to love. Cushioning is great--you really can't go wrong with full length zoom-air. The outsole does give you the "squeeky-squeeky" stop-start traction that I love (see the picture below for a look at the outsole). Fit and feel are really good and despite it's looks, it does feel like a performance basketball shoe comparable to the best out there.

What it's NOT so GOOD at
This is probably not a shoe for the biggest of dudes. You'd be better off with something with Max Air or something more substantial as far as cushioning if you fit that description.

The Verdict
Buy it and play in it...if you can find it. I would definitely check Finishline or your local Nike Outlet. Ebay is always an option too.
